Verdicchio Wine

07/11/2008

This year, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi celebrates  40° years of DOC sanction. As in all  commemorative occasions, it is traditional to  enumerate its achievements and highlight its  role in the economic development of an important part of the region of Le Marche.  Firstly, we speak of the autochthonous vine of Le Marche par excellence, which truly expresses  itself and is exalted in its area of origin, producing great white wines, without fear of imitation,
that are fruit of the careful work of preservation of a clone variety with ancient origins.
The merit belongs to the producers who, respectful of the environment, have struggled  to carry out viticulture on the "Castelli di  Jesi" over the years, people who live and work  there, and have succeeded in making wines that are celebrated world wide for their outstanding
quality. Those who visit our hills will certainly  appreciate their beauty and the great care that goes into the crops and vineyards that  characterize the landscape. All this, added to  the numerous villages and towns, equally well preserved, makes it extremely attractive for local and international food and wine tourism, with excellent results.
The Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi has been responsible for all this, and it still is; it is
the flagship for exports of Marchegian food products and deserves to be recognized for its
crucial contribution to the diffusion of Le Marche around the world.
It has not given in to the temptation of widespread homologation that has characterized
the last decade, maintaining its distinctiveness, uniqueness and typicality, interpreted in a
dynamic perspective of confrontation within the market. Nowadays, when new models for  development are based on attention to detail, this represents an important value of success.
Our hope for the future is that all the farmers and producers of Verdicchio gain a greater
insight into the market and the necessary tools to face it, and worry less about the influences  and misdirection of a wine sector Community policy that may often be incomprehensible, contradictory, and which fails to protect consumers in regards to the quality of the products, not to mention the producers, whose hard work and passion have made it possible to maintain a viticultural heritage of excellence in Le Marche.
